Complete Garden Renovation in Foxrock, Dublin 18
This complete garden renovation in Foxrock, South Dublin, was designed and built by SAS Landscapes to transform an ageing garden into a clean, contemporary and highly usable outdoor space.
The existing garden suffered from significant drainage problems, a poor-quality lawn, dated concrete paving slabs and weathered fencing panels. The project required more than a cosmetic upgrade, with substantial excavation and groundworks needed to address the underlying issues before the new garden could be constructed.
A major focus of the project was improving the lawn and its drainage. The existing ground was excavated and replenished using a carefully prepared mixture of topsoil and horticultural sand to improve the soil structure and drainage. A new drainage system was also installed before the lawn supplied by Summerhill Lawns was completed, creating a much healthier growing environment and helping prevent the waterlogging that had affected the original garden.
The hard landscaping was redesigned using Chinese silver granite paving supplied by Allstone, creating a bright, contemporary patio and circulation area. Linear drainage supplied by Brookes was incorporated into the paving to manage surface water effectively while maintaining a clean finish.
New pressure-treated timber raised beds were constructed around the perimeter of the garden, providing both structure and additional planting space. Horizontal timber screening supplied by Timbertrove replaced the old fencing and creates a consistent contemporary backdrop throughout the garden.
The planting scheme, supplied by Garden World, combines structural evergreen planting with softer seasonal interest. Plants include Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’, Ilex crenata ‘Convexa’, Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Prostratus’, additional hydrangeas and spring-flowering daffodil bulbs. Integrated garden lighting allows the structure and planting to remain part of the garden after dark.
The finished garden combines practical drainage and ground engineering with carefully considered landscaping, planting and materials. What had been a tired garden with poor drainage is now a cohesive outdoor space designed to mature and improve over time.
The project was designed by Scott D. Renwick and completed by SAS Landscapes in September 2026 with Seán Jackman as project lead producing a full garden design and build project in Foxrock, Dublin 18.
