A contemporary garden terrace in Killiney, defined by clean geometry, natural stone detailing, and subtle lighting. The design centres on a circular limestone feature, framed by brown granite paving, and silver granite cobbles, and raised planting beds to create a calm, balanced outdoor space. Killiney Garden Landscaping Project

This Killiney garden landscaping project was designed and constructed as a contemporary outdoor space that prioritises material quality, clarity of layout, and long-term durability. The brief was to create a refined garden terrace that would sit comfortably within its coastal setting while remaining practical, low maintenance, and visually calm.

Kilkenny limestone was selected as the primary paving material due to its proven performance, subtle texture, and natural tone. The limestone forms the main terrace surface and allows the space to feel cohesive and grounded, even during Ireland’s changing weather conditions. A circular limestone feature has been introduced as a central visual element, softening the geometry of the space and creating a clear focal point within the overall layout.

Silver granite cobbles are used to define edges and transitions between surfaces. These provide both visual contrast and durability, while reinforcing the craftsmanship of the build. The detailing around curves, steps, and junctions has been carefully considered to ensure clean lines and accurate finishes throughout the project.

Raised beds have been incorporated to add structure and elevation changes within the garden. These beds help to define zones, introduce planting at different levels, and improve the spatial quality of the terrace without overcomplicating the design. The planting has been kept restrained, allowing the hard landscaping to lead while softening the space through texture and seasonal variation.

Lighting supplied and installed by Hex Lighting plays a key role in the overall design. Discreet fittings have been integrated into steps and level changes to improve safety and usability after dark, while also enhancing the architectural qualities of the stonework. The lighting strategy ensures the garden remains functional in the evening without overpowering the space.

This Killiney garden landscaping project demonstrates a balanced approach to contemporary design, combining natural materials, precise detailing, and practical construction methods to create a garden that will age well and remain enjoyable throughout the year.
